US media outlets and celebrity website TMZ.com have reported that Lance Reddick, a noted actor from the HBO series The Wire and the John Wick movie franchise, has died at the age of 60 from natural causes.

Reddick died suddenly on Friday at his home in Los Angeles. His publicist Mia Hansen confirmed the news and requested that fans respect the family’s privacy. Reddick was on a press tour for the fourth season of The John Wick Movie, which is set to release March 24. He was also scheduled to appear in the John Wick spinoff, Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas.
Born and raised in Baltimore, Reddick had an illustrious 25-year acting career where he appeared in over a dozen films and TV shows. He gained fame for his role as Baltimore Police Lieutenant Cedric Daniels in The Wire, which chronicled the city’s narcotics scene from the perspective of law enforcement, drug dealers and users.
Reddick also played hotel concierge Charon at The Continental Hotel in the John Wick movie (A NewYork criminal underground hub). He lent his voice to several characters including the TV series Rick and Morty.
Reddick (who studied classical music at the University of Rochester’s Eastman School of Music and attended the Yale School of Drama), received a 2021 SAG Award nomination for his role in the film One Night in Miami. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie, and a daughter and son.
Reddick’s death comes two years after his co-star Michael K. Williams (who played Omar on The Wire) died of a drug overdose. Last year, four people were charged with allegedly selling drugs that Williams had taken before her death.

Lance Reddick was born on December 31, 1962, in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. He grew up in a prosperous family, where his father worked as a professional lawyer. Reddick showed a passion for music at a young age and began taking piano lessons in pursuit of becoming a composer of classical music.
During his studies, Reddick attended Peabody Preparatory at the Institute and completed a summer program on music theory and composition at the Walden School. Despite initial apprehensions about acting, Reddick felt a strange affinity for the profession, one that was deep and endearing.
